Glycaemic Index Cops

Hello,

Yeah it may be that you have heard enough about this.

However, weight management and obesity is such a big thing. I walk around a shopping mall and the sights are extreme. Speaking of which, we had the pleasure last Sunday morning of driving past the Auckland marathon. It was a real eye opener. There were people taking part in this marathon that were distinctly overweight. Now if you are a nice person you are probably saying that was a good thing for these people. At least they were taking part. That is true! However it is the general issues I am thinking of…….. Twenty years ago the thought of overweight people appearing in a marathon just didn’t compute. Now we have a significant number of people who are seriously overweight running in a marathon.

What gets me is that fatness and overweight is now acceptable. But what is the ultimate consequence of this? It is surgical removal of feet, legs, hands and vital organs and loss of sight. Yes Type 2 diabetes is a direct consequence of being overweight and this results in removal of body parts!! The truth is most people are at least slightly overweight. Slightly overweight converts to the above consequences.

I am on a crusade to rectify this. It is easy and if you would like to know more about personally reducing weight effectively write me at summersn@ihug.co.nz

Further comments of value will be posted here on a regular basis.

The importance of weight.

November 18, 2008 by medusa2267

A moderate increase in body weight, particularly when it is loaded around “the middle’ is a good sign of a pre-deliction toward type two diabetes. Carrying an extra 5 or 10 kilos in weight can cause general tiredness and lethargy. While it is a current trend on TV to make it “O.K.” for people to be overwight, it is not okay if one wants a long, healthy life. Any dgree of being overweight adds a detrimental load onto the arterial and cardio systems.

The other day while walking for excercise we saw a man walking toward us holding his walking stick across his body. He was balancing with it and trying to cover the fact that he needed a walking stick. As he neared, we said “hello” and he returned the salutation. It was obvious that he had recently suffered a stroke. He of course was doing his best to overcome that stroke.

Stroke is often caused by the downline effects of being overweight. So many men see it as quite acceptable to have a “large tummy” from late thirties onward. If only they could see 10 or 20 years into their future.  Stroke, diabetes, loss of activity and a general decline in health is the absolute inevitable result.

So lets all watch what we eat, both quantity and quality, and excercise at least moderately on a daily basis. The irony about this is that as we excercise by walking, jogging and lifting weights we put weight onto our bones which is also a good thing for long-term health!!

How can Elections help our Weight?

November 10, 2008 by medusa2267

Two major elections were held last week. Maybe there were more. If so, please add them in if you wish.

The first was of course the American election for President. This was arguably the most watched, supported, interesting election since the days of John F. Kennedy. The acceptance speech by Barack Obama was certainly “Kennedyesque”. Even McCain’s speech accepting defeat was very noble.

In New Zealand we elected a new Prime Minister and new government. After nine years the previous government and Prime Minister were soundly defeated.

So how can Elections impact our weight and general health? What do they do to jobs and security? Initially there is a feeling of euphoria at the prospect of positive change. This is a good healthy thing. We must vibrate at a high level in order to attract and maintain good health & weight. Feeling good and secure will generate other good feelings and good results in our lives. When we are feeling healthy and on top of the world we will attract other great events and actions into our lives.

Present in New Zealand and I believe in the U.S. is a feeling that life can turn for the better. When we as individuals believe that good times are coming then collectively we create that reality. Good times open the wallets of people and even better times follow.

There is always a price. Be sure and watch the consumption of food and alcahol as these things tend to rise in consumption levels when we are are very happy or very sad. Be strong through these times of great change and protect your good health. That way you can sure of a long healthy life.

I suggest that these elections at this time in our lives are perhaps the most significant events we will witness for some time. they have and will affect how you feel about yourself……….right there is the greatest weight watcher ever.

Yours in health,

David
